Kaiser Texas – HSA Eligibility Change for Phone and Video Doctor Visits

Starting in 2018, they’re making a change to cost sharing for health savings account (HSA)–qualified high-deductible health plans. WThey are making this change to align with IRS rules on HSA-qualified plans, and because of developments in how we capture, code, and charge for these services.

For members with these plans, some scheduled, non-preventive phone and video visits will be subject to the deductible.

  • This change takes effect January 1, 2018, or at a group’s renewal in 2018.
  • Members will be billed based on the type of service they get and whether they’ve met their deductible.
  • Cost share is $0 once they’ve met their deductible.*
  • Emailing caregivers, calling the nurse advice line, and access to kp.org are still $0 and not subject to the deductible.

This update will be reflected in 2018 renewal notices and members’ Evidence of Coverage documents and benefit statements.
