Can I Enroll in Medicaid and a Plan with Healthcare.gov?

No, you may be enrolled in a Marketplace plan with APTC or CSRs OR Medicaid or CHIP that qualifies as minimum essential coverage, but not both. This is referred to as “dually enrolled consumers.”

If the Marketplace sends (sometimes called “dually enrolled consumers”) you a notice that you may be enrolled in a Marketplace plan with APTC or CSRs and Medicaid or CHIP that qualifies as minimum essential coverage, you should act immediately to update you Marketplace coverage because you are no longer eligible for APTC or CSRs if they are enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP coverage.

If dually enrolled consumers do not take action, the tax filers for those consumers may have to pay back all or some of the APTC paid on behalf of those consumers at tax time.
